Black Swan Fashion Trends

If you haven’t seen Black Swan yet, you definitely have to go out and watch it. Though dark and with squirmish nail biting scenes, this is hands down the best movie of the year! Natalie Portman is simply amazing in this role. And as with all influential movies, we couldn’t help but think of all the fashion trends the movie displays. Below are a few must haves of the season that were evident in the movie:

1. You can’t have a movie about swans without showcasing feathers and we definitely saw this trend in the movie as the ballerinas took center stage!

2. Ballerina Flats-  Need we say more?

3.  Bodysuits are definitely coming back in all sorts of fabrics and looks.

4.  More feathers, you ask? YES! Accessories have definitely played a huge role in todays trends and feathered headpieces have been all the rage these past few seasons!

5.  And last but not least shrugs, whether feathered, textured, or smooth, were seen in a variety of styles throughout the season.

40 Years: Roberto Cavalli

Who doesn’t love Roberto Cavalli?  Not only has he been an amazing designer for the past 40 years, but he has also done revolutionary work in the fashion industry such as inventing and patenting a printing procedure on leather, in which he started creating patchworks of different materials when he began his career (wiki).

Today he continues to do evolutionary work, consistently influencing fashion and showcasing amazingly sexy pieces every season.

His RTW line for Summer/Spring 2011 is a great example of  usually sexy and revealing looks as he showcases sexiness in a high end bohemian-like style. And I’m sure you’ll agree, all the pieces look amazing; I just can’t decide which piece is my favorite!???  Take a look at his Summer/Spring 2011 fashion show below and decide for yourself!

Belts

Belts not only add a touch of femininity but they also help transform any dull outfit into great looks aaaand they accentuate your waist! So when in doubt, add a belt. Usually you want to stick to thin belts for a more casual look and thicker belts for a stronger effect, but either or may work depending on colors, style, and fit.

Below are a few guidelines you should always follow:

1. Never wear a belt that is too tight! It doesn’t look appealing and it only makes you look heavier.

2. You should always wear a belt around the smallest area of your midsection. This will help slim down your torso and smooth out your figure. (Exception – if you wear it below your waistline and around your pants make sure it does not create a “muffin top” effect. That’s a definite No No!)

3. For full figured shapes, wide belts with a stretchy material usually work best. You also want to stay away from really colorful belts and instead opt for darker colors, which deflect attention from your midsection but still smooth out your figure.

4. For boyish figured shapes, thin belts are usually more flattering and tend to give the illusion of an hourglass shape. Try to stay away from wide belts that overwhelm your body; you want to wear the belt not vice versa.

5. Positioning belts on the hip can look great if done correctly. This look usually works best with wovens and tunics. Knits should be out of the question unless you’re Jessic Biel and you have an outrageously fit figure.

Check out this great video on how to put together a few different looks with a variety of belts
